Rabindranath Tagore

The Bengali Renaissance · non-duality · Gitanjali · Song Offerings

The Bengali poet whose songs to God built a bridge between the mysticism of India and the heart of the West.

The essence of the teaching: Life is full of riddles that logic cannot solve – they can only be embraced. Behind the contradictions a single wisdom is hidden, and faith is the bird that sings to the light while it is still dark.

Transmission

Tagore did not flee the world – he found the divine within it: in a river, in a child, in the simple song of a boatman. His faith did not argue with the dark, it sang through it, the way a bird feels the morning long before the sun rises. Of death he spoke more softly than anyone: it is not an enemy that puts out the flame – it blows out the lamp, because the dawn has come and the light is no longer needed. He taught us to meet the mystery of life not with questions but with an open heart, in which both grief and exultation are held as the two wings of one bird.
