Frank Fools Crow
Lakota Sioux (Teton) · medicine man · Fools Crow: wisdom and power
A medicine man whose healing began by his becoming nothing – an empty bone in the hand of the Spirit.
The essence of the teaching: Power comes not to the strong, but to the emptied. Become a hollow bone – take the ego and all personal wanting out of yourself, and you become a clear channel through which the Great Spirit acts.
Transmission
Fools Crow taught: before I heal, I make myself nothing. A person in himself has no power to heal. But if he empties himself, like a hollow bone, casting off his self, his fears and his wants – then through him, as through a clean pipe, the power of the Great Spirit passes. The less of the person, the more of the Spirit. He drew a line between healing and curing: not every body can be cured of sickness and death, but every spirit can be healed through its bond with the Great Spirit. And true wealth is not to hoard power, but to give it away, to let it pass through you onward.
