Miriam Rose Ungunmerr-Baumann
Ngangikurrunggurr (Daly River, Australia) · Dadirri · deep listening
An elder who gave the world her people's ancient word for listening in silence – Dadirri.
The essence of the teaching: Wholeness comes through Dadirri – inner deep listening and quiet motionless presence. Not through questions and analysis, but through a simple being in harmony with the rhythms of the earth.
Transmission
Miriam Rose says: my people learn not by asking questions, but by watching, listening, and waiting. Dadirri is listening not with the ears, but with the whole spirit – a state in which you hear the stories of the land and of your own soul without a single word. Power is born in stillness; strength comes from not hurrying. When you sit quietly with the land, it begins to know you just as you come to know it. And a person becomes whole not by denying their wounds, but by acknowledging the deep sorrow and the scars within – like a tree that survived the fire and put forth leaves again. Waiting here is not idle emptiness, but a respectful accord with the time of God and the laws of nature.
