Garab Dorje
Dzogchen · the first human holder · Three phrases that strike the heart
The source of the lineage. The one who reduced all the Great Perfection to three phrases.
The essence of the teaching: The whole teaching fits in three strokes: recognize your nature directly, settle in it without doubt, trust in self-liberation. The ground is already perfect – it is not attained, it is recognized.
Transmission
Garab Dorje left the student no work – he took from him the very idea that he had somewhere to go. The ground is formless and clear, like the sky, but not an object of attention: be aware while fixing on nothing. The duality of observer and observed is an iron chain on the spirit; break it. Do not seek – the seeking itself is the obstacle, for the goal is the very point of departure. When a thought comes, recognize in it the energy of awareness itself – and it will dissolve like a drawing on water. These are his three phrases: see the nature directly, decide about it without wavering, remain in trust in self-liberation.
