Paramahansa Yogananda

Kriya Yoga · the lineage of Babaji · Autobiography of a Yogi

The one who brought Kriya Yoga to the West and showed that holiness is a portable paradise within.

The essence of the teaching: The soul is the immortal, perfect child of God, temporarily hidden by the "dust" of identification with the body. Meditation and unconditional love wash away this ignorance and reveal the eternal union with the Divine.

Transmission

Yogananda taught that the world of the senses is deceptive: heat and cold, pleasure and pain bind consciousness to matter, but behind them is one subtle energy. To change the body at death is no different than changing one's clothes; the essence remains untouched. God, he said, is simple as a child, and responds not to perfection but to the sincerity of love; the slightest falseness, and He withdraws. And He hides on purpose – so that the joy of the meeting may be the brighter. Do not fight the dream-world: play your role in earnest, but remember it is only a role, and keep within that peace which goes nowhere.
