Sri Yukteswar Giri

Kriya Yoga · disciple of Lahiri · The Holy Science

Yogananda's stern, lucid teacher, who joined the science of the West and the wisdom of the Vedas into a single mirror.

The essence of the teaching: The true religion of West and East is one; the differences are only in words. A calm, disciplined mind and regular Kriya lead to direct knowing, not to blind belief.

Transmission

Sri Yukteswar taught without sweet words: he loved a student by refusing to flatter him. Discipline, he said, is not a cage but a support – as the string of the spine holds the light of the ascent. He showed that the scriptures of the Bible and Vedanta, read deeply, speak of one and the same experience. His "Holy Science" drew the differing paths back to a single root. His chief instruction: do not seek wonders and states – seek an even, clear mind, in which peace becomes your nature rather than a rare guest.
